Romans 10:17 (NKJV)
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV)
But without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Last week we explored ways in which God speaks to us now. We found God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow, and there is no biblical evidence that God would change the way He communicates with His creation. This week we are going to explore, “What is the role of faith in hearing?”
Consider the following:
Our two scriptures today explicitly indicate that in order to hear God we must have faith that God is speaking to us, and we must trust in the fact that we will be rewarded for seeking Him. Therefore, intentionally sitting still and asking God to be in His presence speaks to our faith that He is omnipresent. When we trust God we are illustrating that He is omnipotent. Let me break that down, faith is the feeling or emotion and trust is the action or behavior. Trusting God is carving out the time to be in His presence and faith is being quiet while in His presence because we know He still speaks! Know that God is speaking when He opens doors and when He closes doors, God is speaking when He places someone in your life and removes a person from your life, and God is speaking when He lets you stay in a valley and allows you to struggle to get that mountaintop view. The more we study, not just read, but truly study the word of God, our faith will increase because it is through His words that you will hear Him!
