Psalm 91:7-8 (NRSV)
A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. 8 You will only look with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.
Consider the following:
Today’s scripture lesson is indicating in life you will undoubtedly be under attack, meaning face challenges, extreme disappointments, have setbacks, and perhaps even battle with an addiction. However, great security is promised to believers in the midst of danger. God’s promises are real and His word declares that He will never leave you nor forsake you. Know that it will not overtake you unless you succumb to it! Verse eight is expressing that God's people shall see, not only God's promises fulfilled, but also His admonition of sinners. Sometimes we feel that we are in the position of not only seeing His admonition but also experiencing His wrath! When we experience His wrath we have to ask ourselves, did I step outside of God’s divine protection or is He teaching me a lesson by preparing me for elevation? Other times it may be neither and in God’s divine wisdom we may not obtain the answer. Yet, I encourage you to know that sinners have a mercy-seat with God and you can still be under God’s divine protection.
Say these words after me: “Lord I know sometimes I step outside of Grace but thank you for your mercy-seat. Please forgive me for my transgressions towards myself and others. Please forgive me for my humanness and at times my inability to have complete self-control and discipline. Thank you that your word says through it all, you still love me and I still have a divine residence of protection under you. In Jesus name, Amen."
