Proverbs 14:29-30 (NLT)
People with understanding control their anger; a hot temper shows great foolishness. 30 A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body; jealousy is like cancer in the bones.
Last week we discussed love and one point was how we treat others when we say we love them, but have you ever been so mad at God you said something or even engaged in behaviors that you know good and well that you should not have? Well, our scripture lesson is instructing us to stop, pause, breathe and think before we react. It is informing us that meekness is wisdom. Just as we learned the previous two weeks, perseverance is the action word of patience, and love itself is an action word that involves patience. Today, our scripture is stating if we have a little more patience and control over our emotions, not only do we not look foolish but we will be healthier.
Consider the following:
When you are patient, you learn more, gain more insight, wisdom, and you live longer. So why not be patient? Because it is difficult! Being patient takes discipline. For example, patience is like the stubborn fat that seems to never get toned because if we are honest with ourselves we are not disciplined enough to do what it takes to get rid of the stubborn fat. When we get fed up with being patient, we cope with candy, cookies, cakes, coca cola, and coconut rum. We do not go to our personal gym, our prayer closet to test our endurance. We just sit and complain! Imagine if instead of getting angry and showing foolishness we governed our passions and our temperate accordingly. We would carry a refreshing and healing spirit made up of love and meekness and an overall cheerful disposition. Today, I encourage you to have a heart made by the grace of God. I encourage you to work on your stubborn fat by having a dose of patience six times a day, to build the muscle in your prayer closet before getting frustrated or sad. I encourage you to be consistent in taking your daily dose so jealousy does not build up in your bones, and instead have the fire of the Holy Spirit shut up in your bones!
