1 Peter 5:6-9 Humility 101: Never Get Too Comfortable In Your Talent

1 Peter 5:6-9
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

Today’s scripture lesson teaches us to be humble and lower ourselves even beyond our estimation. More often than not, individuals with natural talent have a great deal of pride and arrogance, so much so that their self-assurance sometimes negates the need for a deeper relationship with God. Today’s scripture reminds us that God is the one who gave us the talent and He is the one to take the talent away, if we do not remain humble. It also reminds us if we continue to let own on self-assurance get in the way, the devil will continue to tempt us by feeding our pride. Therefore, be spiritually alert with a sober mind so you can resist temptation, and the best way to resist temptation is to not feed it — not feed the ego or pride. I encourage you to continue to stay in God’s presence and rest assure that leaning on God will take you higher and further than you can every go instead of trying to lean on yourself.
