1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it"
Have you ever felt that right when you were taking two steps forward, something was placed before you to make you take three steps backward? Temptation is like a small piece of fabric sticking out of your garment that urges you to pull it. When you do, the whole garment becomes unwoven, leaving you naked reminiscing on how beautiful your garment once was. What today's scripture reminds us is that God is a master sewist who can turn torn fabric into a beautiful garment and his love covers us every day if we let him. That is why it is good to remember, temptation is only successful when we pull away from God's love and are not grounded in his Word. Reflecting on past transgressions, all of us can think about how God "provided a way out," but the question is, was God on the forefront of our minds before we decided to succumb to temptation? Did we consult with God before making a decision? Did we think about the plans that God has for us? Temptations are placed on our path to distract us from our true calling and are hollow promises that require us to be our lesser selves. So, today reflect on any past transgressions or current temptations that are urging you to pull on the thread of your garment. Ask God to present signs, symbols, and strength to overcome it and walk forward in gratitude knowing that even in our weakest moments God still gifts us with wisdom to not sin again. Amen.
