Proverbs 2:1-5 (ESV)
My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.
Last week we talked about the power of temptation and how it is vital that we are one with the Lord. In today's scripture God is asking followers to seek him out so we can develop an intimate relationship with him. If we do not feel his presence, he wants us to "raise [our] voices for understanding" and to seek his Word with the same tenacity we would if we were seeking treasure. One of the first defenses against temptation is to be grounded in the Word. The second defense against temptation is having a relationship with God. A relationship with God takes effort and a willingness to seek Christ out, especially in our darkest moments. Lastly, it is important to actively listen with an open heart to God's word so we can have the wisdom to combat temptation.
