Our Daily Bread: Is Your Food Bringing You Life? - Dr. Naima Lett

The founders of One Temple Fitness and Dr. Naima Lett take on this month's Temple Talk entitled, "Our Daily Bread: Is Your Food Bringing You Life?" In this Temple Talk, Dr. Naima Lett discusses the importance of being mindful of the food we put into our temples. Food's purpose is to give us nourishment, but it can also be the cause for so many diseases and ailments like diabetes, chronic heart disease, and much more. For instance, according to Kansas State University, recent data found:

"adults ages 20 years and over - 34.2 percent overweight, 33.8 percent are obese and 5.7 percent are extremely obese. Poor eating habits and lack of physical activity are the major contributing factors to overweight and obesity in the U.S. In addition, people have to be aware that major diseases are on the rise..."

  • 37% of Americans have cardiovascular disease.

  • 34% of U.S. adults have hypertension, a major risk factors for stroke and heart disease.

The above statistics lets us know that food can have a major impact on our quality life, but we wanted to dive deeper into what the bible says about food. Dr. Lett uses her personal experiences, one including her husband's battle with cancer, to highlight how food could be linked to our own liberation. In addition, when we make lifestyle changes it can be revealed to us what our relationship to food is. Are we addicted to some foods? Are we unwilling to let go of some foods because of the way we were raised?

Listen to this amazing discussion as we explore the power of food from a biblical perspective and how we can honor our temple through our diet.
